Holiday Party with Dean Fredrick

Happy Holidays everyone! We celebrated the end of this fabulous year with the very unique jewelry designer Dean Fredrick located here in Austin. His gorgeous diamonds are incredibly modern in that he uses color and slivers of diamonds to create a fashion forward look. (www.deanfredrick.com) We thought it was a great match for our fashion forward bridal dresses.

Thanks to all of the models and fabulous interns who helped set up for the event and who enjoyed the sweets and Cava provided. I know I did!!

It's been a crazy few weeks preparing for Chicago Bridal Market, but somehow we were able to get all of our three collections sewn and photographed to present to buyers at the show.

The new Bella Collection and the Little White Dress Alice Collection were both photographed by The Knot Magazine so keep an out for any online pictures or print features.

Chicago is a great city and I hope to get back there soon when I'm not working a 9 hour, 4 day show!

Stay tuned for an updated list of where CIARLAbride collections will be sold throughout the states. Also, our new collection will be posted on the website in a few weeks but here's a little sneak peek of what's coming....

Partying with CIARLAbride

Austin Fashion Week, the Ciarla Atelier launch event and a co-hosted party with boutique, Girl Next Door. We had a busy schedule last week but it was a productive whirlwind of fashion chaos and fun.  Luckily It all ended with a red carpet Awards party and lots of champagne!

Makeup artist Mandy Hernandez devoted her skills to prepping models for both parties.

Models posed for photographer Ricardo Reyna in pieces from our Alice cocktail collection.

Customers looked through our sample rack of clothing and checked out our couture styles displayed on the Girl Next Door mannequins.

All in all, it was a very productive and fun week, but I'm looking forward to a much needed spa day...

CIARLA Atelier Launch was a huge success!

Local fashion designer's collection mixing classic, offbeat styles bedazzles

In the almost impermeable world of fashion, designer Jessica Ciarla has made it. Ciarla (pronounced Charla) launched her Ciarla Bride Atelier line of bridesmaid and bridal dresses this week in her brand-new East Austin studio as part of Austin’s first ever fashion week. Ciarla is competing for the title of “Best Designer,” which is given during Austin’s Fashion Week’s award ceremony and fashion show Sunday evening.

The petite, 32-year-old blonde mingles through the crowd at her launch party Wednesday evening, effortlessly picking up conversations with whomever is idling.

She stands out among the well-dressed crowd of statuesque models and fashionistas in a jewel-toned purple, tiered silk gown she designed. This dress seems to epitomize what Ciarla brings to the fashion table: Simple, well-cut dresses that can easily migrate from a wedding to a cocktail party, essential for any chic, young twentysomething’s closet.

She has sold clothing in American and Asian boutiques but is also an Atelier designer, meaning customers must make an appointment to be fitted for each dress she creates.

Ciarla’s journey, albeit very admirable, is somewhat typical for a designer. She graduated from California Polytechnic State University with a Bachelor’s in communication, began her career in New York as a stylist at the former YM magazine, received her fashion design certificate from Parson’s School of Design and then moved to Italy, where she received her master’s in advanced fashion design from the Polimoda International Institute of Design and Marketing.

After growing up in Sacramento, living in New York and studying in Italy, Austin seems like an unusual place for Ciarla to settle down. But for Ciarla, the city’s reputation for casual, unique style has become more of an inspiration than a bore.

“You have a combination of each coast here,” Ciarla said. “You have the New York hipster and the West Coast casual thing. The girls here add their own twist to their outfits.”

The garments that hang from a rack in her studio seem to reflect this casual, simple approach to fashion. A-line, knee-length cocktail dresses that each have unique but classic necklines hang next to dresses from her Alice in Wonderland-inspired collection, appropriately called “Alice”. The line includes exaggerated flowers, and belts decorate necklines or cinch wastes, silk organza layered on top of metallics, and full hips, a look made famous by Dolce and Gabbana’s spring 2009 collection, are some of “Alice’s” details.

Ciarla’s other items have similar themes: Audrey Hepburn’s classic black dress in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” inspired the boatneck bodice and A-line cut that is the “Audrey” cocktail dress. Natalie Portman’s appreciation for square necklines inspired the “Natalie,” and so on.

One unique quality about Ciarla, her “Alice” collection and her “Classic” actress-inspired dresses, however, is versatility. Whether it’s meant to be bridesmaid or cocktail dress, each cut can be ordered in a myriad of colors. She also seems to understand that a variety of cuts for a variety of women is essential for any successful, timeless designer — especially one who dabbles in the wedding world.

“The brides that come to me want something different,” she said.

In Sunday’s fashion show, Ciarla will find out if her designs won in their respective categories. Though she’s eagerly anticipating the award ceremony, there’s business to attend to: namely, getting back to work on her next collection.

The Little White Dress- a behind the scenes glimpse

Check out behind the scene shots for my little white dress collection set to launch next month and editorial for my current classic bridesmaid line. Photogrpahed in Austin, the shoot started off as a little disaster as we had planned to shoot outside near a railroad track and a 6th St cobblestone location which the rain and flooding didn't allow.

Luckily, a wrong turn came to a discovery of an old, abandoned building that used to be an old sports club. Vintage posters, graffiti walls and an old, faded, white brick wall made this the perfect background for a modern CIARLA bride.

I was thrilled to get the privilege of working with Austin's finest talent including Ozzie Reyes, who does amazing couture hair designs.

Lauren of Makeup by Dodge who is a brilliant makeup artist, Ricardo Reyna who is my favorite photographer in Austin and always comes up with creative ideas and amazing pictures, along with beautiful models Bree Stotz and Eva Leopoldine.

Stay tuned for the final lookbook that will be posted soon!

Hippie Chick

Ladies, you are in luck. Hips are back and in a big way! Some look a little space like, others reference a more historical quality, but all shapes allow you just enough room to order a fabulous chocolate dessert on a romantic dinner date without showing the consequences. Check out CIARLAbride's "Queen of Hearts" dress in the Alice Collection with a "sweetheart hip" silhouette.

Also, In Style's April issue features hippy, structured, designer dresses worn by Jessica Alba to Victoria Beckham. Very cool or  ridiculous? You be the judge. If you do venture out into the real world with this look, just make sure to watch out for those narrow NYC walkways as you wouldn't want to get stuck!

CIARLAbride Debuts at The Wedding Salon in NYC

Last week I flew to New York to launch both the "Alice" and "Classic" Collections at the Roosevelt Hotel with a company called The Wedding Salon. Thousands of brides searching for high-end vendors attended the show with hopes in finding the right contacts to translate their visions of the perfect wedding. Being the largest event The Wedding Salon has ever hosted a mass of people flew by our booth and grabbed lookbooks and cards. Unfortunately we didn't get to spend as much time as we like with each bride, so if you attended the event and have more questions please feel free to contact our office at jciarla@ciarla.com and someone will follow up with a call.

A pleasant surprise was Sylvia Weinstock who spoke about her collection of exquisite wedding cakes that can cost around  $20,000.

A special thanks to my friends Melissa, Chris and Robin (aka Lil) who helped me prepare and setup for the show. I never could have done it without you guys!

Also a big thanks to Yoga Champion/Model Courtney Mace, who wore the couture CIARLA heirloom gown, a preview of an eco-luxury wedding gown collection set to be released this fall.

Unfortunately, a list of interested NYC brides is not all I took home with me. I've been stuck in bed with the flu for the past few days so everyone please take your vitamins! Something viscous  is going around both coasts:)

Falling Down the Rabbit Hole...

I seem to be in an Alice in Wonderland mood this month which may explain the design of my recent collection. Maybe it's the unstable economy or mercury is in retrograde again (nope, I checked) but a lot of artists also seem to be inspired by the "Alice" trend. So, I decided to write a little article for the Fashion Spot which is an online magazine I freelance for. Along with the article are a few of my favorite Alice inspired photos. Hope you enjoy!

The Alice Trend: Artists Are Enraptured With Traveling to Wonderland from Couture to Bridal to Film

Alice in Wonderland takes us down the rabbit hole into a funhouse world of upside down rules and unpredictable characters. Creative, weird and oddly inspiring, artists seem to be using the imagery and possibly more insightful meanings of the novel into many of their creations. From fashion school projects to couture shows in Paris, the fairytale adventures of this proper, English girl in a world full of chaos translates to a plethora of artistic mediums.

Photographer Anne Leibowitz Shot and Alice in Wonderland shoot for Vogue that became an iconic favorite using couture designers as the supporting cast.

Gwen Stafani was inspired by the over the top Alice theme on a past solo albulm.

Designer Gareth Pugh recreated a modern, fairytale Queen in his white and black gown with modernized, geometric elements and pleats.

The most exciting news for Alice fans is a recent collaboration between Tim Burton, Johnny Depp and Disney to recreate the film in a more engaging way. Tim comments, "The story is obviously a classic with iconic images and ideas and thoughts. But with all the movie versions, well, I've just never seen one that really had an impact on me. It's just always a series of weird events."

Knowing Tim, audiences will get to dive deeper into the twisted minds of Alice's acquaintances and will discover a new, beautiful, darker side to the underlying stories that we may have missed before.

CIARLAbride is coming to NYC

Hello everyone! If you're in New York this next posting is for you!

To showcase the new Classic and Alice collections, I'll be heading to NYC on March 23rd to showcase my new line at The Roosevelt Hotel in collaboration with The Wedding Salon. If you are a bride and would like a free ticket to attend, please email me at jciarla@ciarla.com for the code.

The Alice Collection-Inspired by the topsy-turvy wonderland of fantasy and dreams, the Alice Collection is designed with two basic concepts in mind, color and proportion. The unique shapes and layering of metallic and silk fabrics will appeal to the fashionably modern bride who envisions a whimsical setting on her special day. Luxurious silks and rich color palettes bring a sophistication to this playful collection. Couture elements including hand-crafted rosettes, silk pleating and intricate piping details will ensure that these custom pieces are truly one of a kind for a one of a lifetime affair.

The Classic Collection-Inspired by both modern and vintage icons who celebrate a glamorous yet simplistic style that permeate an effortless aura of chic. The classic silhouette flatters all women's figures by mimicking the natural shape of a woman's body. Fitted a the top, cinched at the waist and completed with a circle skirt, the cut has a modern twist with a lower fitting waistband and usable pockets. With a variety of necklines and color combinations to choose from, a bride and her bridesmaid will have plenty of options to make this custom order dress a true gem to flatter her individual figure and the wedding itself.

CIARLAbride Launches Premiere Classic Collection in Brides New York Magazine

The Starting Line.. A Stylish New Bridesmaid Dress Collection

In a recent issue of Brides New York, we featured the wedding of Lauren Grund, whose bridesmaids wore adorable cocktail dresses designed and created by Lauren's friend Jessica Ciarla. The dresses were a big hit with readers.

"I started getting calls from brides asking how they could get these dresses for their own bridesmaids," says Jessica, who holds degrees in fashion design from Parsons and Polimoda International Institute of Design and Marketing. "So I decided to launch a line of modern bridesmaid dresses in cotton sateen, a more affordable and wrinkle-resistant fabric than silk satin."

The premiere collection of CIARLAbride features five classic styles. Choose from seven fabric colors and six polka-dot print belts; a variety of neckline styles means each bridesmaid can choose the one that looks best on her.
